City of Light
We are a Multi-Cultural and Multi-Generational Church who freely gives worship and praise to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
We are the Light of His Truth and the Light of His Word. Those who perceive the True Light will never walk in spiritual darkness.
We will shine the Love and Character of Jesus Christ everywhere we go!
Mission: Beacons of light shining the way to Jesus by strengthening and supplementing families.
Vision: James 1:27 “Religion that is pure and undefined before God the Father is this: to visit the orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstaffed from the world.”
Values
Hunger for God.
Obedience to Scripture.
Mission in the world but for the Kingdom.
Everyone is the target for the Gospel.
See the Light. Be the Light. Shine the Light.
Simple as they are, these three statements hold weight and have multi-layered meaning.
SEE THE LIGHT.
We cannot give away what we have not received. If we have not had an encounter with God how can we give His love away? Everyone first must SEE the Light to want that Light. That Light is Jesus. Jesus says, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
SEE THE LIGHT environments are low stakes gatherings where one can sit and not have to do anything more. This most often means sitting in rows. And it is cool to cruise in and cruise out potentially being undetected. This is where we SEE who Jesus is through personal encounter in any way God chooses. Sunday morning worship gatherings and Thursday Night Lights are examples.
BE THE LIGHT.
While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of Light. -Jesus
BE THE LIGHT environments are where we learn how to become who God says that we are. This is where we engage our hunger for God now that we have SEEN the light of Jesus, by choosing to show up where we can hear others share, learn how to follow Jesus, discover GOd’s priorities and what He loves and values, grow among other people, ask questions, practice, fail, and where we are engaged in the learning process. Be environments are “hands on” and “hearts on” learning environments in circles with other people. Encounters happen anywhere with God, but growth most often happens in circles. School of the Heart, LightHouses, and This is HOME are examples.
SHINE THE LIGHT.
Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. -Jesus
SHINE THE LIGHT environments are centered on giving God’s love away to others. They also are equipping and training spaces so you can walk empowered with the love and Spirit of God in your sphere of influence-work, home, neighborhood, school. Shine Sundays, Love Your City missions, volunteering in City of Light, and international missions trips are examples.
